BREAKING Arsenal dealt major Champions League semi-final suspension blow for PSG

Thomas Partey will miss Arsenal's next Champions League match. That will come this season in the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain.

The yellow card takes him beyond the threshold for this stage of the tournament.

Declan Rice had been given a yellow in the first half but saw that rescinded after a penalty given against him for a foul on Kylian Mbappe as overturned by VAR.

Arsenal entered the night with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg but were clinical in attack as well as resolute defensively despite the best efforts of Madrid's home crowd. Bukayo Saka put Arsenal ahead in the match and 4-1 up on aggregate before Vinicius Jr offered a small bit of life for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Gabriel Martinelli sealed a fine display over 180 minutes for Arsenal when he sprinted through to finish in the stoppage time. It is PSG who will await them in the final four after they overcame Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Partey will not be able to play the first match of that tie after he was pulled up for a late foul by referee Francois Letexier. Despite yellow cards being wiped after the quarter-finals, suspensions and bans are carried forward.

Arsenal had survived an injury scare for Partey to get into the game. He was a doubt after going off on Saturday against Brentford. Alongside Declan Rice, he was able to shut down Real Madrid in a brilliant performance from Arsenal.

After early penalty controversy, Arsenal managed to weather the Madrid storm and went on to claim victory both on the night and in the tie. Bukayo Saka's first-half miss from 12 yards didn't prove costly after a commanding display helped Arsenal through.

Rice himself looked set to miss the first leg of the semi-final when he brought down Mbappe after 25 minutes. A lengthy review saw the decision changed after Letexier was sent to the pitchside monitor.

In the chaos after the penalty was given, Rice told Mbappe and those around him that he hadn't committed a foul. Although there was a coming together it was not deemed enough to give Madrid a spot kick.
