How does UPI work?

Unified Payments Interface, i.e. UPI, is a real-time payment system. It has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). This system allows users to transfer money from one bank account to another instantly.

When a user initiates a transaction from a UPI app, the payment request passes through his bank server and then through NPCI's central server so that the payment can be verified and processed.

19.47 billion transactions in July

According to NPCI data, the number of transactions through UPI reached a record level of 19.47 billion in July. In terms of value, it was Rs 25.08 lakh crore. Which was the second-highest figure after Rs 25.14 lakh crore in May.
