While the Titans played their first season in 2022 and started with a bang by winning the title on their first instance, their initiative of wearing the lavender jersey started in the following season in 2023. The trend started when Hardik Pandya was GT's skipper in 2023 and faced SRH at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In the IPL 2024, GT continued the trend by wearing the lavender jersey in the match against KKR, who eventually went on to become the champions. In 2025, they are set to pay tribute to the cancer survivors by wearing the jersey against LSG.
They are not the only team to wear a unique jersey in one of their matches for a special purpose. It was RCB who started the trend in 2011 when they wore a special Green jersey to raise concern about the environment. RR also wear a pink jersey while DC wore a lavender jersey in one of their matches in 2015.
