Kotak Mahindra Bank, in an email communication to its bank customers, has informed that insurance-related benefits on debit cards will be discontinued. As per the email communication, customers who have the bank's debit card will not be able to have insurance-related benefits after July 20, 2025. However, all insurance claims received up to July 20, 2025, will be accepted per the existing process.
What are the insurance benefits on Kotak Mahindra Debit cards?
The following are the benefits offered by the bank, as per the bank's website:
a) Personal Accidental Death Cover: The bank's debit card covers loss of life due to an accident. Personal Accident cover provides financial assistance in case a debit card holder suffers an accident that leads to death. This policy pays the with debit card holder's beneficiary or legal heir a fixed amount of cover as per the Kotak Bank's debit card. However, the debit card holder must meet certain eligibility criteria to keep the policy active.
The debit card provides the personal accidental death cover of up to Rs. 15 lakhs and covers accidental death due to rail or road accidents only. The base cover differs depending on the debit card.
b) Lost Baggage insurance: Kotak Mahindra Debit cards offer coverage on loss of baggage when travelling. This applies if the travel ticket is purchased using the bank's debit card. The coverage protection is available up to Rs 1 lakh.
c) Purchase Protection: The Kotak Mahindra Bank debit cards offer purchase protection as well. This covers loss of goods up to 60 days from the date of purchase as per the limits if the goods were purchased using a Kotak Debit Card. The Purchase Protection cover is available up to Rs 1.5 lakh.
Apart from this, Kotak Mahindra Debit card also offers Air Accident insurance (up to Rs 5 lakh), Lost Card Liability (up to Rs 6 lakh). The coverage amount depends on the debit card variant held by the bank's customers.
