NEW DELHI: The newly-elected Nayab Singh Saini government in Haryana on Friday decided to implement a quota within quota in SC reservation. The decision for sub-classification of SC reservation was taken at the first cabinet meeting.
Talking to media persons, Saini said that through the decision, the state has followed the directions of the Supreme Court. The SC had in August passed a judgement that states are constitutionally allowed to sub-classify SCs and STs based on varying levels of backwardness. The Haryana government has created a new category among the Scheduled Caste calling it Deprived Scheduled Caste (DSC) which included 36 SC castes in it. The state offers 20% reservation to SCs. From now, of this 20%, 10% will be reserved for DSCs.
