Mumbai Rains: IMD rings orange alert until Tuesday, IndiGo issues travel advisory as showers to continue; check forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai on Monday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the city. The weather agency has further said that the alert will last until Tuesday.

In light of the bad weather, IndiGo released a travel advisory early Monday urging passengers to plan airport journeys carefully and check flight status in advance, citing waterlogging on arterial routes. Akasa Air and Air India also released similar advisories later in the day.

"Mumbai is still under a blanket of rain, and the roads are moving at a gentler pace than usual. Waterlogging has been reported in parts of the city, especially on key airport routes. If you are travelling to the airport, we encourage you to plan ahead and check your flight status on our app and website before stepping out," wrote the airline on it's official X handle.

According to IMD’s five-day forecast, wet conditions will continue through the week, forcing residents to brace for disruptions. Data shared by AQI.in noted that “these weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the week, requiring residents to maintain necessary precautions and adaptations to their daily routines.”

• Monday: 47.6 mm rain; temperatures between 25.2°C and 26°C
  
• Tuesday: Heavy showers, 119.61 mm; winds up to 37.4 km/h
  
• Wednesday: 93.32 mm rain; winds peaking at 39.2 km/h
  
• Thursday: Rainfall eases to 22.8 mm; maximum temperature 27.7°C
  
• Friday: Light showers, only 3.88 mm; 26.3°C to 28°C
  
• Saturday: Moderate showers return with 7.1 mm expected

Mumbai witnessed intense rainfall on Sunday, with temperatures hovering between 25.1°C and 25.7°C. Humidity levels touched 90%, while wind speeds reached 27.4 km/h.

The Santacruz observatory logged 85 mm of rainfall till 8.30 am on Sunday, while Colaba received 55 mm. This came after a particularly wet Saturday, when Santacruz recorded 245 mm and Colaba 85 mm. Data from the BMC’s automatic weather system showed several localities crossing the 100 mm mark in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s western suburbs received an average of 104 mm, compared to 93 mm in the island city and 78 mm in the eastern suburbs. Among individual locations, Charkop registered 190 mm, Anand Nagar in Dahisar 188 mm, and Borivali 168 mm in the western belt. In the eastern suburbs, Powai and Bhandup recorded 134 mm and 129 mm respectively, while in the island city, Fort (134 mm), Cotton Green (132 mm) and Grant Road (129 mm) also reported heavy showers.
