Singer-composer Lucky Ali, celebrated for his soulful hits like O Sanam and Ek Pal Ka Jeena, recently opened up about his personal life and relationships in a candid conversation with Navbharat Times. Known as much for his distinctive voice as for his unconventional choices, the singer spoke about his three marriages and how each relationship shaped his understanding of love, family, and responsibility.
Lucky shared that none of his marriages lasted in the traditional sense, though each taught him valuable lessons. His first marriage was to Meaghan Jane McCleary, with whom he has two children. Later, he married Inaya, a Persian woman, and they also became parents to two children. His third marriage, in 2010, was to British model and former beauty queen Kate Elizabeth Hallam; the couple had a son before parting ways in 2017. Despite the separations, Lucky emphasized that his relationships with his former partners remain amicable and that mutual respect continues to define their bond.
The singer expressed that he has always been a devoted father and believes that the essence of parenting lies in love and example. His reflections echo the multicultural influence of his upbringing—his father, legendary actor Mehmood, too, married outside India to Tracy, an American woman, after separating from his first wife, Madhu Kumari.
Speaking about his professional journey, Lucky revealed that after acting and singing in films, he felt a need to carve his own musical identity, which eventually led to the creation of O Sanam. He recalled that around 2015, he stepped away from Bollywood—not out of resentment, but due to creative fatigue. Following his father’s death, he felt detached from the film world and realized he sought peace more than popularity.
".In 2015, I distanced myself from the industry. People had misbehaved with me, but it wasn’t toxicity that drove me away—it was the monotony. After my father’s death, I felt there was nothing left for me there. I didn’t even have friends.." he explained.
