'Following the US strikes on Iran, António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, on Sunday said that there is no military solution, the only path forward is ' diplomacy'.
Early on Sunday, US President Donald Trump declared that US forces had “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s key nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan via a coordinated strike with Israel.
"I am gravely alarmed by the use of force by the United States against Iran today," said UN Secretary General.
He called the attacks by US as 'a direct threat to international peace and security'.
Highlighting the risk that this conflict could catastrophically get out of control, Guterres said that this conflict could rapidly get out of control – with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world.
The global watchdog called on the member states to de-escalate and to uphold their obligations under the UN Charter and other rules of international law.
"I am gravely alarmed by the use of force by the United States against Iran today. This is a dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge – and a direct threat to international peace and security.
There is a growing risk that this conflict could rapidly get out of control – with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world.
I call on Member States to de-escalate and to uphold their obligations under the UN Charter and other rules of international law.
At this perilous hour, it is critical to avoid a spiral of chaos.
There is no military solution.
The only path forward is diplomacy.
The only hope is peace." - António Guterres (@antonioguterres), Secretary-General of the UN.

On June 20, Antonio Guterres took to X amid the escalating Israel-Iran conflict saying 'Give peace a chance.'
'My message to the parties - and potential parties - to the conflict between Israel and Iran is simple and clear: Give peace a chance' he said.
The US military attacked three Iranian sites - Natanz, Isfahan and the mountain-buried Fordo, all key parts of Tehran's nuclear programme, which it maintains is purely for civilian purposes.
American planes launched a "very successful attack", US President Donald Trump said, claiming Iran's main nuclear enrichment facilities had been "completely and totally obliterated".
