An 18-year-old college student, who was riding as a pillion with his friend, was killed after a speeding truck rammed into their scooter in Sakinaka. The police have filed an FIR against the truck driver, Mohammad Sheikh, 37, and issued him a notice. A police officer said, “We collected the Sheikh's blood sample. Preliminary investigation revealed that neither him nor the deceased or his friend were inebriated.”
According to the FIR,the fatal mishap occurred around 9pm on April 3 when the victim, Rehan Khan, along with his friend, Usman Khan, left from his Filterpada residence in Powai on a two-wheeler. The duo was heading towards Powai via Andheri-Ghatkopar Road.
When the signal turned green at the Sakinaka junction, Usman started riding towards Powai. At the moment, a speeding truck hit the rear end of the two-wheeler. Rehan fell unconscious, sustaining serious head and facial injuries and began bleeding profusely.
Usman,who suffered injuries to his hand and leg, took him to a nearby hospital with the help of bystanders. However, the doctor advised to shift him to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar East, where he was declared dead.
Sheikh, a resident of Vasai East, has been booked under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
