VIT-AP University library has organized National Librarians’ day on 12th August,2025 at university library hall on the occasion of 133rd birth anniversary of Dr S R Ranganathan, father of library science in India and internationally renowned, national professor recognized by Government of India and a professor of library science.
Dr Achala Munigal, Assoc. Professor & Dy. Librarian Osmania University Hyderabad has been invited as chief guest. In her presidential address, she stressed why National librarians’ day is organising every year on this occasion and the influence of Dr S R Ranganathan’s contributions on present day libraries. She noted that Dr Ranganathan has been honoured Padmasri, National Research Professor & Rao Bahadur by then Govt. of India and Mysore Maharaja for his outstanding contributions to the development of libraries & society, introducing library science course in many universities, devised classification and cataloguing systems, wrote many books on different subjects. Dr Ranganthan had been worked as Professor and university librarian at Madras University, Benares Hindu University, Delhi University for many years and he was the president of Indian Library association, honorary member for FID, Vice president of Library association of Great Britain and established DRTC at Bangalore. Hundreds of Ph.Ds. were awarded on bibliometric analysis on his writings, papers presented and published in national and international conferences throughout India and abroad.
And also she addressed on research writing and research ethics and guidance on articles to be published and how research would be useful for society and the country as a whole. She advised university academic community to utilise library resources off line and online effectively and work hard like Ranganathan for reaching higher positions in their field of life.
While addressing, library Director Dr Ch. Deepak stressed the importance of libraries for academic community especially for teaching and research. He advised research scholars, students and faculty to effectively utilize both print and online resources.
University Librarian Dr Ch Veeranjaneyulu while in his initial address, draw the contributions of Dr S R ranganathans’ to the library science and every librarian should follow the principles, guidelines, best practices and especially follow and practice the five laws of library science sincerely. All the user community of the entire university should be well aware of library resources and utilised effectively for their academic, career and professional development. University providing various annual subscriptions from ScienceDirect, IEEE (IEL), Springer, Scopus, and many more e-journals, e-books and e-databases apart from print books and journals. Librarian initiated by various extension activities to improve library usage and better utilization of library resources at large. Faculty members, staff, research scholars and students participated in the event.
On this occasion, an orientation programme was arranged by inviting Dr P Pradeep from IEEE mentor and he presented how IEEE will support in improving the research and publication.
Best library user awards were given to students, Research scholars and staff categories for the year 2024-25.
Finally, the programme concludes with vote of thanks followed by national anthem.
