This time, 14 former MPs are contesting the Bihar Assembly elections. JDU has fielded the most candidates with five, RJD with four, BJP and Jansuaraj with two each, while AIMIM has expressed confidence in one former MP.
While there has been talk of giving space to young leaders and new faces in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, many older and experienced leaders have become active again. This time, 14 former MPs are contesting on the tickets of various parties. This has made the entire election atmosphere even more exciting. JDU has fielded the most candidates, with five, followed by RJD with four, BJP and Jansuaraj with two each, while AIMIM has expressed confidence in one former MP. Discussion in political circles is that this time, parties view experience and support base as their greatest assets.

The BJP has re-elected two of its former MPs. Ramkripal Yadav, a former MP from the Pataliputra Lok Sabha seat, is contesting from Danapur. The party hopes his popularity will pave the way for victory in the assembly elections this time. Meanwhile, Sunil Pintu has been nominated from Sitamarhi. He previously won on a JDU ticket but later joined the BJP. Now, that seat has become a new test of his political future.
Experience at the forefront of JDU's strategy
Nitish Kumar-led JDU has placed the highest trust in former MPs this time. The party sees this election as an opportunity to strengthen its organization and expand its support base. The candidates fielded in Jehanabad, Gopalpur, Karakat, Kadwa, and Samastipur have strong political experience. Through these nominations, JDU wants to convey the message that its politics is not based solely on alliances, but on local public relations and trust.
RJD gave an opportunity to former MPs
The Rashtriya Janata Dal has also reposed its faith in its veterans. The candidates fielded from Jhajha, Mokama, Bihariganj, and Dhamdha have previously served in Parliament and have a strong following among the public. The party leadership believes that the experience and local influence of these candidates will provide stability to the organization. This time, the RJD's strategy is clear: to leverage tradition and popularity to secure a return to power.
Jansuraj and AIMIM's different paths
The Jansuraj Party, which is emerging with renewed energy in Bihar politics, has also fielded former MPs. Sarfaraz Alam has been nominated from Araria, and Dhirendra Agarwal from Gaya Town. The contest in Gaya has become interesting, with a direct contest between Prem Kumar of the BJP and Agarwal of Jansuraj. AIMIM has fielded Monazir Hasan from Munger, a former MP who wields strong local influence.
Old experience vs. new enthusiasm
The key question in the 2025 Bihar elections is whether the public will rely on experience or give a chance to new faces. All parties have fielded a mix of youth and veterans. Veteran MPs consider their experience an asset, while new candidates are appealing to the public for change. Political analysts say that the people of Bihar will make their decision based on performance, not just promises.
