Garlic Onion Mystery: Have you ever thought that the garlic and onion kept in your food plate not only enhance the taste, but they are also directly related to the most mysterious planets of astrology, Rahu and Ketu?

Mythology says that these two vegetables are not ordinary, but were produced from the blood energy of Rahu and Ketu. This is the reason why they are prohibited in meditation and worship.

Mythological story: Onion and garlic were born from a drop of nectar

When the gods and demons got nectar during the churning of the ocean, Rahu and Ketu drank the nectar by deceit. Lord Vishnu immediately beheaded them with the Sudarshan Chakra.

Legend has it that at that time, onions were produced from Rahu's blood, and garlic was produced from Ketu's blood. That is why they were called 'children of Rahu and Ketu'.

This myth placed them in the category of tamasic food, and the tradition of abandoning them in religious rituals began.

Astrological Analysis: Why are Rahu and Ketu connected?

Tamasic tendencies- Rahu and Ketu both increase attachment, illusion, and lust in humans. Consumption of onion and garlic intensifies these tendencies.

Effect on consciousness: During meditation, these make the mind unstable, distract the attention, and increase mental disorders.

Diseases and Medicines- Rahu and Ketu are considered to be disease-causing in the horoscope. Surprisingly, onions and garlic are also the cure for many diseases (especially blood and heart disorders). That means the treatment of Rahu and Ketu's problems is possible only through their children.

Why is it prohibited in sadhana and religion?

Onion and garlic are prohibited on holy occasions like Navratri, Ekadashi, Somvrat, Thursday fast.

Consuming them in the worship of Moon, Jupiter and Venus makes the mind restless.

This is the reason why they do not find a place in the offerings and Prasad in temples.

Scriptural evidence and references

1. Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 17, Verses 8-10)

In Bhagavad Gita, food is divided into three categories.. Satvik, Rajasik and Tamasik. Understand from the verse-

कत्वम्ललवनात्युष्ण तिक्षनुरक्षविदाहिनः.

आहारा राजसस्येष्ठा दुखशोकामयप्रदाः॥ (Geeta 17.9)

Here, spicy, very spicy and burning food is considered as Rajasik-Tamasik. Onion and garlic fall in this category.

2. Ayurveda - Charaka Samhita

Garlic (Rasona) is considered a medicine, which is beneficial for blood purification and heart disease. But it should be avoided during meditation and fasting because it increases the sexual desire and greed of the body.

3. Mythological story - Samudra Manthan (Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana)

When Rahu drank the nectar by deceit, Vishnu cut off his head. It is believed that onion and garlic originated from the drops that fell from his body. That is why they are called the children of Rahu and Ketu.

4. Mention of Manusmriti

Manu Smriti (5.5) mentions the forbidden food for Brahmins and sadhaks, in which garlic and onion are also considered impure.

5. Vaishnava and Shaiva tradition

The Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition calls onion and garlic tamasic and shuns them in sadhana. The Shiv Purana and Linga Purana also instruct the sadhak to avoid tamasic food.

Rahu-Ketu defects and remedies

If your Kundli (Kundli) has defects related to Rahu-Ketu (Kaal Sarp Yog, Rahu Mahadasha, Ketu's Antardasha), then these remedies give beneficial results.

Adopt a sattvic diet and avoid onion and garlic.

For Rahu – donate black sesame seeds, blue cloth, mustard oil.

For Ketu – donate blanket, dog food, sesame seeds and woolen clothes.

Chant the mantra 'Om Ra Rahve Namah' and 'Om Ke Ketve Namah'.

Do special meditation and donation on Purnima and Amavashya.

Balanced approach

From religious point of view: Giving up onion and garlic is essential for purity and concentration in sadhana.

Medically: These are rich in medicinal properties and protect the body from diseases.

From the astrological point of view: Their use or abandonment directly affects the energy of Rahu and Ketu.
