Call The Midwife star looks worlds away from BBC nun in racy Disney series

Fans of Call the Midwife were left gobsmacked after spotting a familiar face in a new Disney+ series.

The period drama, which first aired in 2012, has seen many of its original cast members go on to star in other popular TV shows and films, including actress Bryony Hannah. Bryony, 40, portrayed the character of Nurse Cynthia Miller, a compassionate and intelligent midwife who became a trusted friend to Jessica Raine's character, Nurse Jenny Lee.

However, her character faced numerous hardships, including abuse and wrongful imprisonment in a psychiatric institute. Bryony was a part of the show for its initial six series, before sadly departing Poplar in 2017 and has not yet made a return as the show enters its 14th series.

It is reported that Bryony left the beloved series to focus on other projects and subsequently concentrated on her theatre career. The actress even received a nomination for the esteemed Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role for her work in the play The Children's Hour.

Much to the delight of Call the Midwife fans, Bryony has now secured a role in the hit Disney+ series Rivals, reports .

Starring David Tennant and Alex Hassell, Rivals offers a rollercoaster of high-stakes antics and gripping storylines, starting with the high-altitude exploits of an ex-Olympian MP. The drama, adapted from Jilly Cooper's 1980s bestseller Rivals, part of her Rutshire Chronicles series, features Bryony as Deirdre Kilpatrick, a researcher at Corinium TV and a character likened to a human Eeyore.

Fans on were taken aback by Bryony's transformation for the role, with one Call the Midwife enthusiast posting a snapshot of her in Rivals and remarking: "Spotted in Disney's Rivals, far cry from the nuns!"

Another fan was so surprised by her new look that they said: "She looks so different. had to who it was", while someone else noted: "Wow, she looks totally different."

One viewer admitted: "Took me a good minute to work out who it was", and another confessed: "Didn't recognise her at all."

Besides Rivals, Bryony has showcased her talent in BBC One's Death in Paradise, The Chelsea Detective, Porters, and ITV's crime series Unforgotten, which stars Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar.
