The show chronicles Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall, the future Commander of the Kingsguard) and Egg (the future King Aegon V Targaryen), and is positioned between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, approximately 100 years before the tales of Jon Snow and Arya Stark, reports the Express.
Following early reports about the series that left supporters devastated when it was suggested it would comprise merely six episodes lasting roughly 30 minutes each, fresh information has maintained optimism.
HBO CEO Casey Bloy revealed at the 2025 Emmy Awards that the wait is nearly over, as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has entered post-production and will launch in January.
He additionally disclosed that House of the Dragon season three will debut several months afterwards, signifying two programmes set in Westeros will broadcast in the same year for the first time ever.
"A proper Westeros binge year," one fan wrote on X, while another said: "We're so back!"

"Two spin offs in one year is crazy, binge fatigue incoming," one fan commented.
"It's been too long," someone else wrote, and another added: "SOOOO READY OMG cannot wait."
"Helllll yes," one fan said, as another wrote: "Used to pray for times like these fr."
"2026 is looking great for entertainment," another wrote.

It was earlier claimed that the series has already been renewed for a second and third season, following the second and third novellas of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms volume.
HBO executive Francesca Orsi previously shared: "We're already planning on how do we build this for the three seasons in total. We're not picking it up officially, but it's looking very good. We're looking at it as a holistic piece, Seasons 2 and 3, because there's three novellas."
George R. R. Martin also shared his support for the upcoming series, writing on his blog: "I've seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm. and Tanselle Too-Tall."
He added: "It's as faithful as adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject)."

The synopsis for the first season, titled The Hedge Knight, teases: "The tale is based around characters affectionately known as 'Dunk and Egg' - Ser Duncan the Tall, a young but courageous knight, while Egg is his small-in-stature young squire.
"Together the pair are wandering Westeros. This time period is a state of change for the Seven Kingdoms. While the Targaryens still hold the Iron Throne, they are now without dragons.
"While the last dragon is still within living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits await these two unlikely heroes."
The novel was released in 1998, with the second, The Sworn Sword in 2003 and the final of the trio, The Mystery Knight, in 2010.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is set to air on HBO in 2026.
