Gogglebox's Shirley leaves fans 'howling' after cheeky comment aimed at Strictly star

Shirley Griffiths from Gogglebox made fans "howl" as she admitted she was "on fire" after watching Harry Aikines-Aryeetey on Strictly.

Harry - aka Nitro from Gladiators - put in an impressive performance on the BBC ballroom show last weekend, flashing his muscles as he and pro partner Karen Hauer danced a Cha Cha to Push It by Salt-N-Pepa. The Gogglebox armchair critics had a peek at the dance in the instalment of the Channel 4 show that aired on Friday (October 3).

And it seems watching Harry doing press-ups while Karen stood on his back was a bit much for Shirley.

She was sat watching the dance with her husband Dave and admitted: "He's made my night."

"Shall we get some cool water or something?" Dave asked her. "We'll have to get something - I'm on fire!" Shirley admitted.

Viewers were tickled by the comment, with one posting on X (formerly Twitter): "Hahaha I'm on fire..."

"Shirley 'you’ll have to get something I’m on fire' made me howl," said another.

The TV star also got some laughs when she told a story about how she once ended up becoming a "stowaway" after a few drinks.

She and Dave were watching some of the latest scenes of Below Deck, the reality series about crew members on a yacht, when she shared her hilarious story.

"I stowed away on a boat once," she revealed, as Dave replied: "You what?"

"Yes," she replied. "From Jersey to Portsmouth, back to Jersey and back to Portsmouth."

Shirley told her hubby: "Me and Julie. We got p*****. Yeah, I was that drunk. I didn't know where the hell I was."

Viewers were amused by the TV star's tale, with one person joking on X: "Watch out Shirley there’s no limitation on charge of stowaway from Channel Islands expect a knock on the door."

"How is that stowaway story not a movie?" asked someone else on the platform.

As well as Strictly Come Dancing and Below Deck, this week the Gogglebox stars shared their views on TV shows including The Girlfriend, Dragons' Den and Only Connect.
