In order to win the game, they must beat the other 99 players and avoid coming last at all costs.
This week, contestants were asked to perform numerous tasks, which included flicking elastic bands at a balloon, making paper aeroplanes and counting peas in a bottle.
While some people were entertained by the games, others were distracted by players’ dramatic reactions to the light-hearted contest.
One contestant kept emotionally referring to her twin, who was also competing in the game, much to the amusement of fans watching at home that felt it was a bit over the top.
Meanwhile another contestant admitted she’d “never been so angry in my life” as the competition left her screaming in irritation.
Taking to X, formerly , some viewers complained about the seriousness of those taking part, with one person reflecting: “Watching #99tobeat, it's not a bad format but it needs more fun. They need a comedian or a Craig Charles like person to host and commentate on it.
“And they need less people taking it seriously! Those twins acting like it is the Squid Games and the sister is off to get shot!” (sic)
“What’s with the whole twin thing? Dramatic much?” a second wrote.
“Do they understand that they aren’t going to die if they lose a challenge?” a third person quipped.
More tweets compared the show to Squid Game - only without the life or death stakes - while one more person simply wrote: “#99ToBeat Some of these contestants are very dramatic.” (sic)
However, others seemed to be enjoying the show, with one person tweeting: “#99ToBeat catching up on today's and I just love this show. The brothers are hilarious as presenters #AdamAndRyanThomas.” (sic)
A second penned: “#99toBeat I’m loving the tests. Hitting a balloon off a plinth with an elastic ban. Now for balancing nails.” (sic)
A third enthused: “Let's bring on the balloons, the nails, the pancakes & all sorts. Time to start the 3rd set of games.” (sic)
99 To Beat returns next Saturday at 6pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
