As Bihar reels from a disturbing spike in violent crimes ahead of the assembly elections, Union Minister Giriraj Singh has come out with a controversial statement, calling the wave of killings a “political conspiracy” aimed at tarnishing the image of CM Nitish Kumar. In the past 24 hours alone, 9 people were murdered in 4 separate incidents across Purnia, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, and Patna, prompting widespread political outrage and calls for accountability.
Giriraj Singh's Big ClaimSpeaking from Begusarai, Giriraj Singh stated:
“A conspiracy is being hatched to defame Nitish Kumar by spreading terror and committing crimes. Some people, under the garb of politics, are creating unrest to destabilize the government. This will soon be exposed.”
He also invoked Lalu Prasad Yadav’s era, alleging that during Lalu's rule, “a panchayat of criminals used to sit at the Chief Minister’s residence,” taking a swipe at Tejashwi Yadav for criticizing the current government.
The Violent Incidents That Sparked Outrage:-
Purnia: A shocking case where 5 members of a family were lynched and set on fire over allegations of witchcraft.
-
Nalanda: A violent clash between two families over a children's dispute led to the death of a 22-year-old woman and another man.
-
Muzaffarpur: A junior engineer was stabbed to death in front of his family.
-
Patna: A 50-year-old businessman was shot dead, further rattling the state's capital.
The opposition, particularly RJD and Congress, has launched a fierce attack on the Nitish-BJP alliance:
-
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge labeled the JDU-BJP alliance as a "thugbandhan", accusing it of turning Bihar into the "crime capital" of India.
-
Tejashwi Yadav shared a cartoon targeting PM Modi and CM Nitish, alleging that both are ruining Bihar just to save their power.
Giriraj Singh also addressed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list that has become a flashpoint in Bihar politics. Targeting the India bloc, he questioned:
“Who is scared of the voter list revision? Should Rohingyas and infiltrators vote in our elections?”
He accused the Congress-RJD alliance of protecting illegal immigrants and claimed the Election Commission was doing its constitutional duty. “Those without documents have been given a chance to verify their identity. Indian Muslims are safe. It’s the infiltrators who are being shielded by political forces for votes,” he added.
