BBC Gardeners' World fans in tears over heartbreaking terminal cancer news

Fans who tuned into the latest episode of Gardeners' World were left in tears after hearing the story of Steve, a professional inventor who lives with his wife, Pippa. Their story is particularly fascinating as they have a windmill in their garden. Whilst their story was deeply interesting about restoring the windmill back to its original condition, it quickly took a sad turn. Steve then told audiences at home that he's recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and he doesn't know how long he's got left to live. He said it could be "two months or two years, possibly". However, his positive mindset has persevered, and he saw his cancer as a "new challenge".

BBC viewers couldn't help but react to the emotional story. One person said on X: "Stunning cottage-type garden with Windmill a bonus and unique. Typical Cancer comes along for the bloke who still wants to finish the Windmill. Let's hope he can do it and beats the disease as he dearly loves his wife. #GardenersWorld." Another also echoed: "Well that took a sad and rather dark turn," with an emotional emoji. A fourth also similarly commented: "Wonderful couple Windmill garden #GardenersWorld #PositiveMindset."

A fifth also said: "How marvellous to have a windmill. Love it, shall we call him Windy Miller? No, call him Mr. Toad. He has the correct attitude, be positive, get up, dress up, show up and never give up #GardenersWorld."

Meanwhile, last month during Gardeners' World, Monty Don told BBC viewers at home that his garden had suffered due to the dry conditions.

The 70-year-old told audiences at home that the dry conditions have caused some of his garden plants and vegetables to suffer. He said that when it comes to vegetables, "water is essential" and added, "What you water and when is key."

On one hand, his outdoor tomatoes were in great condition despite the dry weather. Monty explained that he's watered them once a week and added that the tomatoes "like the heat and they're not suffering."

Meanwhile, his broad beans were a different story. Monty explained that he's never needed to water them in his life, and yet they've suffered in the summer conditions.
