As travel habits evolve during the autumn months, an increasing number of Brits are opting for the convenience of budget-friendly staycations rather than costly overseas breaks. Research carried out by credit card provider Aqua examined multiple elements in a bid to find the UK's cheapest weekend break including lodging expenses, online search activity, and weather patterns - with one coastal destination emerging as the clear winner.
Leading the rankings ahead of Blackpool and Portsmouth, which secured second and third positions respectively, is Torquay. A weekend escape to this pretty town costs as little as £79 for two people, based on a three-star hotel break from November 7 to 9. Their win may hardly come as a shock, given that autumn in Torquay delivers pleasant temperatures, creating ideal conditions for outdoor pursuits and sightseeing without the summer masses.

The breathtaking clifftop routes, including the South West Coast Path, provide perfect opportunities for lengthy strolls, allowing guests to savour the crisp air and magnificent scenery.
The autumn season in this region proves excellent for nature lovers, offering chances to observe migrating birds and appreciate the native wildlife in more tranquil surroundings.
