Countryfile's Matt Baker says special episode is 'dream come true' for Archers fans

During the latest episode of BBC's Countryfile, Matt Baker and Charlotte Smith headed to a quaint Worcestershire village called Inkberrow

It inspired the long-running BBC radio soap, The Archers, which began in the 1950s and is set in the fictional village of Ambridge.

At the start of the episode, it was clear Charlotte was over the moon with the special episode, as her co-host Matt, who recently shared an update with fans, confessed she's a big fan.

While sitting outside in a pub with two pints in hand, Matt told viewers: "Oh, we're making Charlotte's dreams come true today!"

After giving one another a cheer with their drinks, Charlotte replied: "Now, for me, we are in the centre of the known fictional universe, the Bull at Ambridge."

Matt added: "This is home to the Archers and Charlotte is a massive fan."

During the show, the BBC star told viewers she's been listening to the radio soap for 30 years and loves it. She added: "I'm not alone! Millions of people tune in every day for agricultural escapism."

As the episode unfolded, Charlotte decided to try her hand at cricket, one of the main sports mentioned within the BBC radiosoap.

Wearing a shirt from the fictional village team, it seemed as though the BBC star surprised herself, having never played the sport before.

After admitting she'd never picked up a bat before, Charlotte commented: "I think I might be taking up cricket!"

When the episode wrapped up, she told viewers that on BBC Radio 4, people could listen to The Archers along with a familiar voice, sharing that she was appearing in the episode.

However, it wasn't long before people watching commented on the episode, with one person spotting a huge blunder.

Taking to X, they wrote: "So #Countryfile have an #thearchers themed episode tonight, which is a lovely idea. However it doesn't finish until 7.15pm so clashes with an actual episode of The Archers! I wish someone at the BBC had thought about the scheduling a bit more."

One person, who was unimpressed by the show, said: "BBC #countryfile promoting BBC #thearchers - you couldn't make it up."

Another added: "I think I'd rather watch a repeat of the episode where they discuss photographs."Someone else commented: "#Countryfile really needs to take a break and come up with some relevant material @bbcone."
