Erik ten Hag has left new Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim a perfect welcome present

didn't use his marquee summer signing once before being sacked as manager on Monday, epitomising his calamitous third season in charge. Leny Yoro has spent his start to life in Manchester on the injury table and will debut under a different boss than the one who recruited him.

United beat to Yoro's signature in a £59million deal in July, tying the Lille defender down to a five-year contract.

Later that month, the 18-year-old featured in two pre-season matches against Rangers in Edinburgh and in Los Angeles, the first of United's tour of the United States.

However, during the latter, he was forced off early after fracturing his metatarsal, which required surgery and a lengthy lay-off.

Last week, at the three-month mark of Yoro's rehabilitation, United provided a promising update, confirming he had started training outside on the grass.

And while the club stressed his return wasn't "imminent," three months was the timeline delivered at the start of the Frenchman's comeback trail.

Amorim is set to inherit an exciting, young squad that significantly underperformed in the dying embers of Ten Hag's reign.

The 39-year-old will bask in the wealth of young players at his disposal at Carrington, including Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.

But few are more exciting than Yoro, widely hailed as one of the world's most promising defenders when he made the switch.

Amorim will start working with him while his United career is a blank canvas, which will be a bonus, considering Ten Hag signed him months ago.

The Red Devils' sporting director, Dan Ashworth, outlined how highly the club's figures rated Yoro when he walked through the door in July.

He said: "Leny is one of the most exciting young defenders in world football; he possesses every attribute needed to develop into a top-class centre-back.

"Having had such an excellent start to his career, we are excited to support him in reaching his immense potential here at Manchester United.

"This club has a fantastic record of developing young players, whether homegrown or brought in from elsewhere, and giving them the required guidance, time and patience to grow and flourish.

"Under Erik ten Hag and our excellent staff, we will ensure that Leny has the perfect platform to achieve the success that everyone across the club is aiming for."

If Amorim deploys his favoured 3-4-3 formation at Old Trafford as expected, Yoro could thrive with the additional support of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez while he finds his feet.
