presenter has set the record straight about her retirement plans following a battle with breast cancer and undergoing surgery.
In a recent episode of the BBC (August 29), Carol opened up about her career and explained why she feels like a "lucky person".
When asked what keeps her "going" and whether she might retire, the 79-year-old said that she still loves her work and later revealed that "nothing comes between" her and her .
Carol responded: "I absolutely couldn't [retire]. I haven't got enough dosh to do that for a start, but that's not the reason. I want to carry on working. I just love it - I love the gardening, I love the presenting, I love writing.
"I'm such a lucky person. So few people in the world get to do what they really want to do and love what they're doing and I'm one of them, but I think I'll just carry on until I just, yeah...stop."
Carol was then asked how her health had impacted her approach, but the gardener revealed that it had "no influence whatsoever".
She explained: "I've had a double mastectomy but everything was found at an early stage and I'm just waiting for the results of one of the little tests.
"But I know they're going to be... everything's going to be absolutely positive and I'm going to be cancer-free. I'm absolutely certain of it, but I only really had to sort of take it easy for a few weeks."
Carol went on to say that it hadn't been long since she'd had her before explaining that "nothing comes between" her and her plants.
Earlier this month, it was reported that she had appeared on TV for the only weeks after her procedure.
In an interview with MyWeekly, Carol indicated that support from her family and friends had helped in her recovery process. She said: "I was lucky and had a positive outcome."
Carol made her first appearance on Gardeners' World in 1989 and worked on Channel 4's Garden Party in 1996 before later securing a permanent position on the BBC show.
She has also written a book, which is titled 'Hortobiography' and provides insight into her life, including her role as an illustrator in Rome.
You can next catch Gardeners' World on BBC Two on Friday, October 18th, from 8pm.
