has bravely opened up about her personal battle with a thyroid condition, which she was diagnosed with following the birth of her daughter Darcey, now 18.
The 57 year old TV presenter discussed her health issues on designer Sarah Haran's YouTube channel during a candid chat with fellow television personality Anthea Turner.
Kate shared that her thyroid initially became overactive after her pregnancy, leading to unexpected weight loss.
She explained: "I've got thyroid problems, I've got the autoimmune thyroid condition. And it was discovered after I had Darcey, when it went massively overactive and actually I got super skinny. I could literally eat anything and I was thin. And initially I thought 'this is great' and then I thought actually this is not great."
The condition continues to impact her daily life, requiring her to manage it with significant medication.
Kate added: "I'm still losing weight and it turned out to be overactive. So now I've gone the other way, so it's virtually packed up. So I now have to take a lot of Thyroxine and so I keep it in there, my little bag, because if I don't have it in something small, it won't be on me when I need to take it."
The mum-of-two courageously opened up about her personal struggles at a charity event, sharing "I'm just at that early stage at the moment of coming out of grief. I'm just barely holding it together. I haven't actually been out that much. So it's nice to come out tonight. Derek passed away so recently, so it's just one step at a time."
Shortly after this brave admission, Kate was further distressed by family news: after her father collapsed in July and was found unconscious at home, leading to an urgent rush to hospital right after her appearance on GMB.
According to a source close to the situation, "It was incredibly frightening as he was found unconscious and immediately taken to hospital. Kate rushed to be by his and her mum's side minutes after GMB finished on air."
Adding to her woes, her father's health scare was severe: "It seems likely that he's had a stroke and possibly a heart attack as well - doctors are still doing tests. He remains in hospital and is currently stable but, understandably, it's given the whole family a terrible scare and they are praying he can recover."
