When making baked beans for lunch this week, I decided to add just a splash of one sauce and it changed the flavour immensely, something I was surprised by but enjoyed nonetheless. Like many people living in the UK, I love for lunch. It is a quick and simple dish, and it always satisfies me.. While baked beans taste great as they are, there are some ways to improve the flavour and make it a more exciting lunch.
I have been trying a few ways to make my baked beans taste better, and recently, I found that . However, this week's beans on toast was made even more delicious, and all I added was one tablespoon of soy sauce. This sauce, typically used to make Asian dishes such as fried noodles, is a handy staple that I always have in my cupboard. So, when curiosity took over as I heated up a tin of baked beans, I had to try something.
As usual, I poured a tin of baked beans into a pot and let them cook on a medium heat. But about halfway through the process, I added a tablespoon of soy sauce.
I love the taste of soy sauce and it is something that I include in many dishes I cook, from stir fries to . But until this week, I had no idea how much better baked beans could taste with a small bit of soy sauce thrown into the mix.
As soon as the sauce went into the pot, the beans turned a slightly darker colour and I knew that the flavour would be different. A tablespoon was perfect because it did not overpower the baked beans, but added a little bit of an 'umami' flavour to it.

Baked beans are quite sweet, so I appreciated the more salty and savoury addition of the soy sauce. After about five minutes, I turned the heat off and it was time to add the baked beans to my toast.
After trying a number of ways to enjoy my baked beans, I can safely say that this is one of my favourites and I will probably add soy sauce to it again, especially considering I always have a bottle of it in my kitchen.
Similarly, s, giving them a salty and tangy touch that would otherwise be missing.
