initial X Factor audition has made its way back into the spotlight after his tragic passing.
At age 31, According to a statement given by ambulance service spokesperson Alberto Crescenti, the singer plunged approximately 40 metres, sustaining fatal injuries "severe injuries which were incompatible with life".
The pop star hopeful first stepped on the X Factor stage at the tender age of 14, back in 2008. His appearance at the auditions not only showcased his singing talent but also marked the moment he first laid eyes on with whom he would later father son now seven years old. In a rediscovered clip, Payne can be heard expressing his passion, revealing: "When I'm at school, in general, I think about singing all the time."
Even during his studies, he admitted, "I should really be concentrating on my school work but I just think about singing too much." The audition tape features a young Liam introducing himself to the panel of judges, including Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, and Cheryl, declaring: "A lot of people say I'm a good singer and I've got The X Factor but I don't really know what The X Factor is and I believe you guys do."
Liam wowed the judges with his smooth rendition of Frank Sinatra's classic Fly Me To The Moon.
Post-performance, Simon Cowell didn't mince words, stating: "I'm just missing a bit of grit, a bit of emotion and actually a bit of fun, funnily enough." Cheryl was more encouraging, complimenting: "I liked it. I think you're really cute. I think you've got charisma... you gave us that cheeky little wink," while Louis Walsh enthusiastically added: "I think this kid could do fantastic in the show."
Despite the positive feedback from Cheryl and Louis, Simon remained unconvinced, noting there was "20 per cent missing" from Liam's act.
Undeterred, Liam retorted: "Well give me another audition and I'll show you I've got that 20 per cent." His persistence paid off as he was given another shot, impressing all three judges enough to advance to the next stage.
Liam progressed to the judges' houses, but Simon ultimately decided not to take him further in the competition, advising him to come back in two years.
True to his word, at 16, Liam returned to the X Factor and earned his place in One Direction with Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan, catapulting them to global stardom.
The news of Liam's untimely death has left fans reeling. A local ambulance manager disclosed to TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel."
"At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."
