NCIS fans predict major shake-up to franchise as Tony and Ziva spin-off synposis released

Speculation is rife amongst the NCIS fanbase about how this spin-off might shake up the usual format of the mother series, with one ardent viewer taking their excitement to Reddit following a peek at updates made to the show's IMDb page, which reveals the cast and hints at what's to come with a brief synopsis.

A pumped Platform user @PupBiscuit exclaimed: "NCIS: tony and ziva IMDb page is out with cast. Been waiting for this to come out and keeping an eye on it.

"Came across its imdb page which confirms the release date in 2025 and the cast that will be in the first season." (sic)

Sharpening fans' anticipation, the Redditor included the provided plot teaser, which reads: "After Ziva's apparent death, Tony raises their daughter, Tali.

"Years later, Ziva returns and reunites with Tony. Tony's company is attacked, and the family travels to Europe, trying to learn who's after them and to trust each other again."

The post's originator noted how the preview "makes me wonder at what the structure of the show is going to be like". (sic)

They added: "Makes me wonder will it be similar to what we know or a completely different structure?

"Also lot of executive producers and director are lesser known ones. Edit: it also confirms only 10 episodes in first season." (sic)

NCIS enthusiasts have taken to online forums to chatter about the upcoming series and the anticipated deviations from the show's typical setup, reports .

"Seems more drama/thriller than procedural," one fan mused, as the original poster concurred: "Yeah that's what I was thinking thought I didn't expect them to go that way with it." (sic)

Reaction was further stirred by a fellow viewer ssaying: "Michael has said on the podcast that it's not gonna be a procedural 'body of the week' show...I'm looking forward to the difference." (sic)

As buzz grows, there are fans who can't wait to see familiar faces in new roles, with one saying: "I'm looking forward to seeing Tony and Ziva as parents while being partners."

Indeed, nostalgia has its place too, as another fan confessed, hopeful for the retention of legacy NCIS features. They wrote: "I hope they still keep some similar elements to the original, like the 'FOOF' scene transitions that they always reference in the podcast, so it still feels like NCIS." (sic)

The spinoff spotlighting NCIS alumni Tony and Ziva was made public in February 2024, coming soon to Paramount+ in the UK for a first season of ten episodes.

At the launch announcement, showrunner John McNamara expressed anticipation along with the show's two leads in a statment that read: "We've been talking about this story for many years, and now with John at the helm, we are ready.

"The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fuelled by love, danger, tears and laughter.

"We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from around the world who supported the 'TIVA' movement for years.

"To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you."

NCIS: Tony & Ziva is coming to Paramount+ soon, with an official release date yet to be announced. NCIS is also available to stream on Disney+.
