Prince Harry reportedly "blew" his relationship with his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II before he even quit royal life. While some may think cracks between Prince Harry, 40, and his royal relatives only began to show when Harry and his wife Meghan Markle quit royal duties in 2020, it seems that the issues had begun a few years before.
It has been reported that the Duke of Sussex actually fell out with the late Queen before his wedding to Meghan in 2019, with the late monarch believed to have been "very worried" about her grandson. That's according to the late Queen's first cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson, known as Liza, whom the former monarch confided in.
As reported by The Daily Mail, journalist and royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith spoke about the issues in her Substack 'Royal Extras' after her conversations with Her Majesty's late cousin.
It is believed Queen Elizabeth told her cousin Liza that Harry was "rude to her for ten minutes" in one meeting before the wedding, and that "Meghan and William and Kate were not working well".
Bedell Smith claimed the late monarch also told her cousin that she felt left out of the wedding planning and found Meghan to be "bossy", with the duchess reportedly not wanting to tell Harry's grandmother about her wedding dress.
Ms Bedell Smith wrote: "When we spoke two weeks before the May 19 wedding, Liza had just heard from the Queen. 'The Number One Lady-I call her Jemima-says the jury is out on whether she likes Meghan,' said Liza."
It was alleged that the late Queen's cousin also said the monarch was worried about the wedding and that they thought Meghan was not "in love" with Harry, and instead "engineered it all."
Queen Elizabeth II also reportedly told her cousin she was "not at all content" about the issues before the wedding, which included some of Harry's actions, and was upset.
Bedell Smith said that according to Liza, the Queen was dismayed that Harry had asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to perform the wedding service in St. George's Chapel without first requesting permission from the Dean of Windsor. - something he should have done.
It is believed that this caused Harry, who seemed to think the Queen could do what she wanted, to have "blown" his relationship with her grandmother, leaving her "saddened".
It is believed that weeks before the wedding, the late Queen and Harry - who met up alone - sorted things out and repaired their relationship, however according to the former monarch's cousin, Queen Elizabeth II still had concerns.
The late Queen always kept a tight lid on these concerns, and even after Harry and Meghan quit royal life in 2020,she always insisted they would be part of her family. She also kept in touch with the couple via zoom after they moved overseas to America.
