Princess Kate's words of advice to Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek spotted by lip reader

Princess Kate offered Wimbledon women's singles winner Iga Swiatek some prudent words of advice after her stunning victory over runner-up Amanda Anisimova.

This is according to lip reader Jeremy Freeman who analysed backstage footage moments after the Pole's stunning 6-0,6-0 victory of the American. According to the expert, Kate told the winner: "Ensure that you have some downtime."

Earlier in the heartfelt conversation, Kate told her: "Wonderful, extraordinary achievement, very well done. Congratulations and enjoy it. Enjoy the celebrations back home."

Kate is the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club and after the incredibly one-sided final she handed out the awards to both women.

And here she comforted Anisimova by telling her: "You should be so proud, well done, and enjoy yourself."

An emotional Anisimova, who was in tears after the loss, said afterwards: "Iga, you're such an incredible player, obviously showed today. You've been such an inspiration to me, an unbelievable athlete. Congratulations to you and your team."

Her opponent then graciously said minutes later: "First of all I want to congratulate Amanda for an amazing two weeks no matter what happened today. I hope we're going to play many more finals here and at other tournaments.

"I didn't even dream [about winning] because it was way too far, I feel like I'm already an experienced player after winning the slams before but I never really expected this one."

Princess Kate became a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 2016 and since marrying Prince William in 2011, she has been present on Centre Court most years.

She received a standing ovation after she arrived at the royal box this afternoon and Jeremy interpreted her as saying: "Sweet, very nice to hear."

The future queen consort also shook hands with former Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova, 68, before greeting tennis legend Billie Jean King, 81, who curtsied to her.

After Billie asked how she was, Kate replied "beautiful" before enjoying the historic final that crowned the first ever Polish winner of the tournament.
