There is a huge array of high calibre films on offer right now, but perhaps a mainstream cinema blockbuster doesn't float your boat. If you are are looking for your next watch and want something slightly off the beaten track, then look no further. From a dark comedy starring Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza to directorial debut in the form of a coming of age story, there is plenty to choose from. Here are six newly released films to get stuck into, as selected by Cherry Picks.

Splitsville

Splitsville is a comedy film directed by Michael Angelo Covino and starring Dakota Johnson (who is also producer on the film). The film's synopsis reads: "It follows two couples whose friendship erupts into conflict when the husband of the divorcing couple sleeps with the wife of the open marriage couple."

Honey Don't

Honey Don't! is a 2025 American neo-noir dark comedy detective film directed by Ethan Coen and it stars Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans, and Charlie Day. The film's synopsis reads: "Small-town private investigator Honey O'Donahue probes a series of strange deaths that are tied to a mysterious church."

Trust is a thriller directed by Carlson Young and starring Sophie Turner. Its synopsis reads: "A Hollywood starlet retreats to a remote cabin after a scandal -- but she's not alone. Betrayed by the man she trusted the most, she soon finds herself trapped in a brutal game of survival."

Pools

Pools is a coming of age film directed by Sam Hayes in his feature debut and it stars Odessa A'zion. The film's synopsis reads: "In the midst of her whole life falling apart, Kennedy attempts to somehow reconnect with her dead father, searching for permission to live her own life within a wild pool-hopping escape through the elaborate estates of her college town."

The Balconettes

The Balconettes is a French comedy horror film directed by, co-written by, and starring Noémie Merlant. The film, which also stars Souheila Yacoub and Sanda Codreanu, follows three young women during a heatwave in the south of France. The synopsis reads: "Three women in a Marseille apartment gets stuck in a heat wave. They find themselves trapped in an affair and longing for freedom."

Ne Zha 2

Ne Zha 2 is a Chinese animated fantasy adventure comedy film written and directed by Jiaozi The film follows the story of Chinese mythological character Ne Zha and his friend Ao Bing. Its synopsis reads: "A rebellious young boy, Ne Zha, is feared by the gods and born to mortal parents with wild, uncontrolled powers. Now that he's faced with an ancient force intent on destroying humanity, he must grow up to become the hero the world needs."
