"Multiple" people have been shot in Times Square, New York, according to reports. Social media users say bodies are on the ground as they report a huge police presence. Reports suggest the chaos unfolded at around 1.20am local time (6.20am BST), between West 44th Street and 7th Avenue, Manhattan. Footage shows panicked crowds fleeing the popular spot as police swarmed a vehicle.
Viral Press posted on X: "Times Square Shooting Three people have been shot in the heart of Times Square. Bodies are on the ground, bullet holes pierce car windows. The chaos unfolded near a major tourist area. One suspect is in custody." Video footage from the scene appears to show one person on a stretcher being wheeled into an ambulance, surrounded by police officers.
