Sean O'Neil, a 54-year-old retired NYPD officer, shot his wife dead before killing himself with the same gun on Wednesday. The murder-suicide unfolded in front of the couple's three kids at their home in Westchester County, New York. According to Yonkers police, the former NYPD detective shot his wife, Arlene O'Neil, shortly after a disagreement early Wednesday morning, at around 7 a.m. He then shot himself. It is not clear what the dispute was about. Sein O'Neil joined the NYPD in 1993 and rose through the ranks to become a detective, as per the New York Post. He also worked in the Joint Terrorism Task Force of the NYPD, which involves NYPD and FBI members. His wife, Arlene O'Neil, was a teacher at the Eastchester Union Free School District. She used to teach 5th-grade students. They used to live on 142 Chittenden Avenue. Yonkers Police said that emergency responders announced Arlene dead on the spot. Meanwhile, the ex-detective shot himself in the head once and died instantly. In a statement, the police said, "The couple has three children who were home at the time of the incident but were physically unharmed. They are currently in the custody of family members."
