Agra: Five people were arrested after a dispute over pillion riding spiralled into violence during a horse show organised by the Aligarh Muslim University's Riding Club at the Athletics Ground on Tuesday.

A university official said the clash began with a heated argument between two groups, which quickly escalated into physical assault. Injured students later went to JN Medical College, where the violence flared up again and gunfire was reported inside the emergency hall.

AMU Proctor Mohammad Waseem said one student has been identified and faces suspension. CCTV footage has been handed over to police.

SHO Civil Lines police station Rajbeer Singh said an FIR was filed against several known and unknown individuals — including Saqlain, Shoib Haleem, Zakiur Rehman, Altamas, Adil, and Azhar — under sections 191-2 (rioting), 191-3 (unlawful assembly), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 109 (attempt to murder), and others.

DSP Abbey Pandey said a case was registered and further investigation is underway.
