KARUR: Four people, including children were killed and 14 injured in a road accident on Salem-Karur NH near Vennaimalai in Karur district on Saturday morning after a pvt omni bus collided head-on with a tourist van.
Sources said the incident occurred around 5 am after the bus hit a tractor and veered across the center median to the opposite lane and crashed head-on into an oncoming van. The bus was travelling from Bengaluru to Nagercoil, while the tourist van was coming from Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district and was heading to Yercaud. Local residents alerted authorities, and rescue teams from the Karur Fire Station, along with police. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, while the bodies of the deceased were sent to the Karur govt medical college hospital for autopsy.
So far, one of the four deceased has been identified as D Sasikumar (42) and Dakshika (8). Sasikumar was the driver of the tourist van, which was carrying 32 passengers at the time of the accident. Further investigation is underway.
