BENGALURU: A 52-year-old man surrendered to police after murdering his wife with a sickle in the early hours of Friday. The incident occurred around 3.30am at their residence in Subbaiahnapalya, Banaswadi, in east Bengaluru.
The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Kalaivani, while the accused is Ramesh, a carpenter. While Banaswadi night patrol units were alerted by neighbours about the murder, Ramesh had already surrendered.
Cops escorted him back to the crime scene and discovered Kalaivani's body with multiple deep wounds to the neck. During questioning, he revealed a troubled domestic history. Ramesh, a widower with two daughters, married Kalaivani 12 years ago, after her husband's death. The couple had a son.
However, tensions surfaced when Kalaivani allegedly refused to care for Ramesh's daughters, leading him to send them to live with his parents. Disputes frequently erupted when he visited them. On Thursday, after one such visit, Kalaivani allegedly made derogatory remarks suggesting an inappropriate relationship with his daughters. Enraged by the accusation, Ramesh claims to have lost control and attacked her.
Police have informed Kalaivani's kin, who are expected to arrive soon. A case of murder has been registered.
