Lucknow: The Sushant Golf City police arrested a man for illegal sale of IPL match tickets near a mall.
The accused, Sujit Yadav of Ahimamau, was caught selling tickets at higher prices after a passerby recorded a video and shared it on social media. The video went viral prompting swift action from the police.
Police took Sujit into custody and recovered 43 IPL tickets from his possession. He was taken to police station and later booked under relevant sections for black marketeering . The police registered a formal case against him late Thursday night, and he was sent to jail on Friday.
Police are now investigating the broader network behind the illegal sale of tickets. "We suspect that more people could be involved in the racket. The accused is being interrogated to identify other members of the group," a police officer said.
"We have urged the public to buy tickets only through official channels and report any suspicious reselling activity to curb illegal practices during ongoing IPL season," said DCP, south zone, Nipun Agarwal.
