Jaipur: A 49-year-old man from Jhunjhunu gave a new lease of life to two people Wednesday as his relatives donated his kidneys after he was declared brain dead while undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital.
On May 4, 2025, Raghunath Singh, a resident of Iktawarpura in Jhunjhunu district, was admitted to the trauma centre of SMS Hospital, Jaipur. He was injured while climbing a khejri tree and, despite treatment, he was declared brain dead Tuesday. Following this, SMS Medical College principal and controller Dr Deepak Maheshwari and nodal officer of the organ transplant program Dr Manish Agarwal counselled the family about organ donation.
Subsequently, Singh's family members, including his wife Parvat Kanwar and brother Dilip Singh, along with other relatives, agreed to donate his organs. Singh is survived by a son and a daughter, said Dr Agarwal. "His organs were donated, with both kidneys successfully transplanted at SMS Hospital into a 25-year-old female patient from Bharatpur and a 37-year-old male patient from Pilani, Jhunjhunu," said Dr Shivam Priyadarshi, head of urology department at the govt-run super speciality hospital.
