THRISSUR: A 30-year-old man, who was arrested for misbehaving with a woman vlogger inside a moving KSRTC bus nearly two years ago and was controversially accorded a reception by a men's association when he came out on bail, was nabbed again on Saturday for a similar offence. Vadakara, Kozhikode, native Savad Sha was arrested after the alleged offence took place inside a bus plying from Thrissur to Malappuram on June 14.
The survivor reported the incident to the conductor who took the bus to the nearby Peramangalam police station. In the meantime, Savad tried to escape but couldn't open the door as it had a central lock. He reportedly jumped through the window and escaped.
The survivor lodged a complaint with the Thrissur East police station. Officers there checked CCTV visuals from the Thrissur KSRTC bus station. On cross-checking them with the details available in the police database, the accused was roughly identified as Savad as he had a similar case registered against him at Nedumbassery in 2023.
"We showed Savad's photo to the survivor and his identity was confirmed. Subsequently, we traced him to Pollachi and took him into custody on Friday," said inspector Jijo M J with the East station.
Police said, as per the woman's complaint, the accused had touched her with sexual intension and behaved in an inappropriate manner.
Savad was produced on Saturday before Thrissur judicial first class magistrate I, K K Aparna, who remanded him in 14 days' custody.
Additional public prosecutor P A Ananthakrishnan said the police have slapped the charges under section 75(1) and (2) of BNS which are related to making unwelcome sexual overtures towards women on Savad.
He said the charges against the accused were non-bailable, as he is a repeat offender.
