Madurai: Security has been tightened and large-scale preparations are underway in Madurai ahead of the Lord Murugan devotees conference scheduled to take place on Sunday near Vandiyur toll plaza at Amma Thidal along the Ring Road.
With thousands arriving since Saturday, police deployed over 2,000 personnel, including special units for crowd and traffic control. Seating arrangements have been made for more than 10,000 devotees, while food and medical aid booths have been set up at the site by Hindu Munnani.
Jana Sena Party leader Pawan Kalyan is expected to attend the conference, along with several BJP leaders from Tamil Nadu and other states. City police commissioner J Loganathan said in a statement that elaborate arrangements were made to ensure smooth conduct of the event and to regulate the expected surge in traffic. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with temporary diversions and follow signages.
City police have enforced major traffic diversions to ease congestion. Buses from southern districts like Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari will be rerouted via Viraganur and Mandela Nagar. Goods vehicles from Melur Road must take alternate routes via Poovandhi and Thiruppuvanam.
Local two-wheelers and cars heading toward the event site must avoid PC Perungayam Junction and use Karuppayurani and Sakkimangalam routes. Vehicles from Usilampatti, Dindigul, Alagarkoil, and Kottampatti have designated Ring Road diversions.
