NEW DELHI: The Central government has sanctioned a grant of Rs 291.15 crore to the Uttarakhand government to strengthen disaster mitigation efforts in Joshimath, the chief minister’s Office said on Saturday.
According to the CMO, the funds were approved following a request from chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami . “On the request of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Central Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 291.15 crore to make Joshimath safe from disaster,” the statement read.
The chief minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah for approving the financial aid for reconstruction and safety works in the region.
“The chief minister has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah for sanctioning funds for the reconstruction activities of Joshimath. The chief minister said that the state government is committed to the well-planned development and safe long-term works in Joshimath,” the CMO added.
Joshimath, a Himalayan town in Chamoli district, has been at the centre of attention due to land subsidence and environmental concerns , prompting the need for urgent structural and safety measures.
