Congress MP Manish Tewari has said intelligence agencies should be put under the parliamentary oversight, arguing if his suggestions were accepted in the past, the country would not have been in an " embarrassing position " as it is now.
In a post on X, Tewari said, "Parliamentary oversight of intelligence agencies is an idea whose time has come. Had my private member's bill on Providing a legal basis for our intelligence services and a robust parliamentary oversight mechanism been accepted by successive govts from 2011 to 2024, India would not have been in the embarrassing position it finds itself internationally."
