NEW DELHI: Amid his outreach to seek support of MPs for the Sept 9 vice-presidential poll , opposition candidate Justice (retired) B Sudershan Reddy in an interview to Ambika Pandit says he has entered the contest to protect and defend the Constitution at a time society is getting increasingly polarised due to divisive forces. Reddy is pitched against NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan.
Reddy said he will be appealing for support from MPs of all political parties and will be formally releasing a letter addressing them soon.
Countering criticism by BJP and home minister Amit Shah of the 2011 Supreme Court verdict on disbanding the anti-Maoist Salwa Judum militia in Chhattisgarh, Reddy said, “some spin they are trying”, adding that “in the Salwa Judum judgement, I was speaking about the menace of violence”. “I was talking about ideals enshrined in the Preamble, civil rights and liberties,” he said.
