Tim Walz on SNL: Who is Jim Gaffigan who roasted Kamala Harris at Al Smith Dinner?

Comedian Jim Gaffigan's appearance at the 79th Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner took an amusing twist when he called out Vice President Kamala Harris for skipping the event, which stirred both laughter and surprise among attendees. Rather than showing up in person for the prominent Catholic charity gathering, Harris sent in a pre-recorded message—a decision that became the target of Gaffigan’s lighthearted criticism.

Gaffigan playfully addressed the situation by joking, "This is like the Catholic Met Gala. Twenty-two percent of Americans are Catholic. Catholics are key in every swing state." He followed up by asking, “So, where’s Vice President Harris?” prompting a mix of chuckles and groans from the audience. He also poked fun at Harris for making time for appearances on The View, Howard Stern, Colbert, and even the Call Her Daddy podcast, humorously adding, "Maybe she just doesn’t like me.”

In another bit, Gaffigan satirically referenced ongoing concerns about President Biden’s age, suggesting a fictional Democratic coup to replace him with Harris. He remarked, “Democrats have been warning us that Trump’s re-election is a threat to democracy. They were so worried they staged a coup, removed their elected leader, and put in Kamala Harris,” leaving the audience both entertained and slightly taken aback.

Gaffigan's comedic chops extend beyond charity dinners. In the 50th season of Saturday Night Live (SNL), he joined the cast to portray Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’ running mate in a spoof of the 2024 presidential race. This debut performance was highly anticipated after Gaffigan was cast alongside SNL veteran Maya Rudolph, who reprised her role as Kamala Harris.

In one of the skits, Gaffigan’s Walz played the role of a former teacher running for office, humorously lamenting his financial situation: “As a former teacher, I need the money. This suit is from Costco. It’s a Kirkland brand.” The goofy portrayal of Walz continued throughout the season premiere, culminating in Gaffigan's character making awkward statements that even shocked Harris, played by Rudolph.
