Hunsur: In a shocking incident, a man who had married a woman he met on Instagram allegedly strangled her to death on Friday night due to suspicions about her behavior. The incident occurred in Buchahalli village under Bilikere Police Station limits.
The victim has been identified as Pavithra (26), a native of Tumakuru. The accused, Sachin (26), a tender coconut vendor from Buchahalli and son of Nagesh, has surrendered to the police. A juvenile was reportedly involved in the crime as well.
Six months ago, Pavithra came into contact with Sachin through Instagram, claiming to be an Infosys employee with no family support. Trusting her, Sachin married her in a simple ceremony with his family’s consent.
Sachin would regularly drop Pavithra off at the Infosys campus in Mysuru. However, her behavior soon raised doubts. When Sachin called a woman Pavithra claimed was her aunt, the woman denied knowing her. He then contacted a man Pavithra had introduced as her brother, who revealed that she had previously been married and divorced. This revelation led Sachin to closely monitor his wife’s activities, resulting in frequent arguments between the couple.
On Friday, when Sachin offered to take Pavithra to her workplace, she claimed to be unwell. Suspecting foul play, he checked her ID card and found it to be fake. Angered by this, he confronted her at home, and a heated argument ensued.
Later, Sachin lured her out, saying they would go eat gobi manchurian. He then took her to a field under the pretext of switching off a water motor. With the help of a juvenile, he allegedly strangled her with a rope. After committing the crime, he went straight to the Bilikere police station and surrendered.
Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, Additional SP Malik, DySP Gopalakrishna, and Inspector Lolakshi visited the scene and conducted an investigation.
Police have registered a case, and the victim’s body has been sent to K.R. Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
