Pavagada: A 40-year-old man who attempted suicide succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening in Kanivenahalli village of Pavagada taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Hanumantharayappa, a resident of the village.
According to sources, Hanumantharayappa had been exhibiting symptoms of mental illness for the past 5–6 months and had attempted suicide multiple times in the past. As a precaution, his family members had been keeping a close watch on him and tried to ensure he did not leave the house alone.
However, on Friday evening, taking advantage of a brief moment of inattention, Hanumantharayappa slipped out of his home with a knife and headed to a maize field on the outskirts of the village. There, he reportedly slit his throat in an attempt to end his life.
Local residents discovered him in a critical condition and immediately rushed him to Pavagada Government Hospital. From there, he was referred to Tumakuru District Hospital for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, he passed away en route near Madakasira.
Circle Inspector Suresh from Pavagada Police Station visited the scene and is conducting further investigation.
