Toyota may have plans to introduce something new for the Indian market. Currently, there is a lot of excitement around SUVs and off-road vehicles. Mahindra Scorpio, a powerful SUV with many features, has become a legendary name in India’s automobile industry. Mahindra Thar gained immediate popularity after its launch, and Suzuki also introduced the Jimny, targeting off-road enthusiasts. Toyota, known for its iconic Fortuner, could be eyeing this segment as well.
The Toyota Fortuner, while a robust and feature-packed vehicle, is not an affordable option for many Indian consumers. The Indian market often demands vehicles that offer a lot of features at a lower price. To meet this demand, Toyota may introduce something between a full-size SUV and a micro SUV. If rumors are to be believed, the Japanese automaker might be planning to launch a “Toyota Mini Fortuner” with 4×4 capabilities.
According to ongoing speculations, this new SUV will carry Toyota’s traditional off-road strengths, featuring high ground clearance and rugged styling. It is expected to be available in petrol and strong hybrid variants, possibly equipped with a 2.0-liter petrol engine and hybrid system similar to the Innova Hycross.
An all-electric variant could be introduced later, although diesel versions seem unlikely. The new Toyota Mini Fortuner is rumored to be ready for production by 2027 at Toyota’s new Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar plant. It is expected to be more affordable than the Fortuner, positioning itself as a competitive alternative to vehicles like the Mahindra Scorpio N and Thar Roxx. However, no official announcements have been made by Toyota regarding this Mini Fortuner.
If Toyota does release a new version of the Fortuner, it would compete directly with other SUVs in the market, such as the Mahindra Scorpio, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Thar ROXX, Tata Nexon, Tata Harrier, and more.
